Everything and a Shoe’s “This Day On Jan. 27th”

My dear friend Chris wrote a re-cap of my birthday blog entry on his own blog, Everything and a Shoe. It’s fantastic! Here is what he wrote:

this day in jan 27th

For example, did you know that Mike Patton was born on jan 27th and has been in 750 billion and eleventy bands, not limted to anal jerry and his bum digilars and men with hats. Also, He was the voice of mario and played Kramer on seinfeild. Also, very important in the asian theather in world war two….

Also, Lewis Carrol, famous mathematician, writer of the basketball diaries, and robot clone of roman polanski.

Also, Jolene, whom is my favirote person in the world, invented dr pepper, and is just like mike patton, except instead of the words in videa games she was hot on the interwebs….

also my mum was born today, and I can’t make funny lewd jokes about her because she is my mum you assholes…

also today is rabbit hole day, which is a horrible horrible internet fetish.”

Happy Birthday Mike Patton & Lewis Carroll!

Me, Mike Patton, & Lewis Carroll having a birthday tea party!

Hello, darling-dears! Welcome to the newest incarnation of my website! Today is my birthday and I decided I’d debut my blog on this day to accumulate extra good feelings and positive energy. After all, today is the day that I get to feel like a princess and be the girl with the most cake. Teehee.

I’m not here to talk about myself, though! The 27th of January is also the birth day of two people whom I greatly adore & respect & admire – musician Mike Patton and author Lewis Carroll!

We Aquarians are known for being eccentric, innovative, and anything but ordinary. (We may all have a bit of the mad scientist vibe in us too!) I think that Mike Patton and Lewis Carroll fit these descriptions perfectly! Both of them have found ways to express their originality and intellect through various forms of art.

Mike Patton is the ultra-prolific musician who you may know from bands such as Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. It seems like he is ever-creating. He has a huge list of other bands and side projects like: Fantomas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, and Lovage, just to name a few! Along with his numerous musical endeavors, he also expresses himself in other ways, providing his vocal talents for films and video games. I am in awe of everything this man has done and can do! His voice is his instrument (though he’s skilled at other instruments too!) I’ve never found any other artist that has experimented with so many genres of music and so many vocal stylings. He is ultra-experimental with a fantastically sexy voice. (Yes, I’ll be honest with you, most of his music turns me on. Haha.)

Care for some delicious samples of his work? Check out these videos:

Recommended listening:
Peeping Tom. Self-titled. This is my most favourite Mike Patton project ever! As a girl who grew up on hip hop, but later converted to alternative rock, this album is perfection to me. It is a fantastic mix of both hip hop and rock. As Mike Patton said about this album, “I don’t listen to the radio, but if I did, this is what I’d want it to sound like.” I’m not even exaggerating when I say, Peeping Tom is the only thing I’ve been listening to in my car for about 95% of the past year. I am in love with this album.

Mr. Bungle. California. This is Mr. Bungle’s third album, and the best in my opinion. It’s eclectic and experimental and in a category of its own. Every song is a glittering, unique snowflake. Oh, you know how I said that Peeping Tom is what I listen to 95% of the time in my car? Well, California is the other 5% haha.

Lovage. Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By. This album is a collaboration with Nathaniel Merriweather of Handsome Boy Modelling School, singer Jennifer Charles, and Kid Koala. It’s a gorgeous and sexy trip hop album, and I can tell you from experience, it is indeed good music to make love to!

And a happy birthday (or should I say, un-unbirthday?) to Charles Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll. As you probably already know, Lewis Carroll is the author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, his most popular books. These books have enthralled and delighted me endlessly for as long as I can remember. Mr. Carroll is a fantastic example of the types of Aquarians that are truly children at heart. He created this amazing, imaginary world in his Alice books that are filled with enchanting imagery and clever thoughts & ideas. Also embracing the mad scientist side of Aquarius, Lewis Carroll was a mathematician who loved riddles and puzzles.

Recommended reading:
The Annotated Alice: The Definitive Edition. Published in 1999, this is the third book in a series of “annotated Alices.” The first was published in 1960, and the second, More Annotated Alice, in 1990. The Annotated Alice is the story of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, but includes tons of tidbits, facts, trivia, and references to many of the details of the story. It’s fascinating!

All Things Alice. This is a collection of artwork, quotes, musings, and so much more inspired by the Alice stories. Every page is adorned with gorgeous Alice-inspired artwork from many different sources. I love this book! It’s absolutely aesthetically-pleasing and it excites my soul!

Lewis Carroll: Complete Works. Mr. Carroll may be best known for his Alice stories, but he has written so much more! This is a collection of all of his novels, short stories, poems, and puzzles. Of course, including the well-known classics!
